Pictured below is Camp Evans with extra aircraft (a Crane, other Hooks, and Hueys) parked everywhere. Crimson Tide park turned into a staging area while everyone waited for the weather to break over the A Shau Valley.

No - my ship (#129 there in front) didn't have a hard landing to make that crater. SeaBees dug our parking revetments with bulldozers and I think they got carried away on a few of them. It took a good "front seater" to land in some of the deeper ones...
